Colours
Patrick Rose
I used to live alone in a house of bright red
Worked and toiled everyday
Then the roofer came and took it all away
Now the new brigades away
But who can know where the time used to go
Yellow, red and blue have made brown
We swung to the left now we swing to the right
But the centre is the only place we go
I used to live alone in a house of bright blue
Farmed the crops to make my pay
Then I watched as they took it away
Now nobody wants to pay
I used to live alone in a house of yellow
Taught the world to smile and sing
Then I watched as nine thousand traitorous lies
Made them pay for everything
Now my walls are empty and the colours all gone
Painters gone on holiday
Purple soars and shuts the doors and colours the road
Will it be there come May?
